Age : 50 Years Old

      Before Lulu came to live with us at Chalong Elephant Retirement, she used to haul heavy logs for the logging industry in the forest for decades. After a long time of eating unhealthily, poor Lulu had developed a case of severe diarrhea and almost could not make it. That is when we found Lulu, brought her to our camp and have been taking care of her ever since. Once every 1-2 years, Lulu will still show some bad stomach symptoms and will get ill and have diarrhea. When that happens, she has to take saline and rest for few days until she can come back out to play.


      Lulu waggles her whole body left and right when she is very happy. Especially, when she is in the bath puddle. Lulu loves to take mud bath more than anything. Out of all the food Lulu eats, she loves ripped mangoes the most. When sleeping, Lulu likes to sleep on her side. It helps her to sleep 4-5 hours at a time.

Race : Asian Elephant

Date of Birth : 15/01/1977

Age : 45 Years Old

      Not so different than Lulu. Before Sombat came to live with us at Chalong Elephant Retirement, she used to haul heavy logs for the logging industry as well. Sombat had injured her rear left leg while she was dragging the logs when she fell into a giant whole. She needed surgery on that leg and had to take weeks of rests to recover. After that it was clear that she could not work like before and that is when she came to live with us at Chalong Elephant Retirement.


      Sombat is a very calm elephant, she is discreet and neat. She walks slow and carefully but she can be very clingy too. If she likes someone she will try to stay closer to that person. Sombat’s favorite food is young coconut, bamboo leaves and caryota urens.
